Speakers from the Philippines, Russia, and the United States will address the Wesleyan Covenant Association’s Fifth Global Gathering on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at Frazer Church in Montgomery, Alabama.
“We’ll have more to say about our speakers later this summer, but we’re excited to announce our line-up for Go Global!”, said the Rev. Keith Boyette, WCA President. “Bryan Collier [Lead Pastor, The Orchard, Tupelo, Mississippi], Eric Huffman [Lead Pastor, The Story, Houston, Texas], Krystl Johnson [Executive Director, Delaware County Pregnancy Center, Chester, Pennsylvania], Bishop Eduard Khegay [Eurasia Episcopal Area, Moscow, Russia], Carolyn Moore [Lead Pastor, Mosaic Church, Evans, Georgia], Jonathan Razon [Senior Pastor, Living Faith United Methodist Church, Murong-Bagabag-Nueva-Vizcaya, the Philippines], and Tim Tennent [President, Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Kentucky] will challenge us to boldly share the Good News of Jesus Christ all around the world.”
As in years past, many local churches will partner with the WCA as simulcast sites to allow thousands of WCA members and friends to participate in the gathering. (Local churches wanting to serve as a simulcast site can click HERE for an application.) The event will also be recorded so people around the world can have the opportunity to watch the presentations.
“We’re very grateful to Frazer Church for its willingness to host us,” said Boyette. “Its facilities are wonderful, and the church has a dedicated and experienced staff with all the skills necessary for producing a great gathering.”
The WCA is closely monitoring the Covid-19 pandemic, and it will work closely with Frazer Church and all the simulcast sites to observe local guidelines for the safety of those attending the gathering.
“We’re doing a good deal of contingency planning right now,” said Boyette. “The pandemic is bound to impact the gathering in one way or another, so we’re exploring all our options. We will continue to provide regular updates regarding the status of the gathering in the coming weeks and months.”
In addition to its Global Gathering, the WCA’s 36-member Global Council is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, and its Third Global Legislative Assembly will meet on Friday, October 30 (both events will be held at Frazer Church). The assembly’s approximately 300 delegates will hear reports from the ministry task force groups it authorized last year, and it will also consider various legislative proposals. The delegates will meet ten months before The United Methodist Church’s General Conference considers petitions that would allow for the creation of a new, global Methodist church.
Despite the challenges of planning major events in the midst of a pandemic and preparing for the launch of a new church, Boyette said, “We’re moving forward, believing and trusting God will use us to share the Gospel globally.”
