Prayer Waves: A Global Day of Fasting and Prayer

The Wesleyan Covenant Association International Intercessory Prayer Network

In Scripture, God instructed us how we, the body of Christ, should respond in a time of plague:  with fasting, repentance, and prayer.

On Friday, March 20, 2020, the leaders of the Wesleyan Covenant Association International Intercessory Prayer Network held a video conference call and decided to hold a global day of fasting and prayer called “Prayer Waves.” The event will culminate with an hour of focused prayer together at 5:00 p.m. local time on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020.

We chose Palm Sunday because it is the day that our Lord Jesus entered Jerusalem. As disciples of Christ, we will cry out with waves of prayers. We will praise our Lord, repent of our sins, and offer prayers of intercession in this time of pandemic. We will then go into Holy Week, remembering once more the mystery, the suffering, and the power of Christ’s death on the cross that liberates us from our slavery to sin and our fear of death. And finally, we will celebrate Christ’s Resurrection on Easter Sunday, our sure hope that God with is us.

Each WCA Chapter prayer team will coordinate and hold its own “Prayer Wave” gathering from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. their local time. We are calling on the Lord for the waves of praise, repentance, intercession, and the waves of His mercy to cover the earth. Prayer Waves will start in Africa moving into America from the East Coast to the West Coast. The time length of each gathering will be one hour.

We will fast 24 hours. The fast will start at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4th, and end on Sunday, April 5th. We recommend a water fast; however, you know your own health condition. Please be wise. There are different fasting options such as “fruits and vegetable fast”, “juice fast,” etc.

Since physical gatherings are not possible in many locations due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we will hold the gatherings through teleconferencing. WCA Chapter prayer team leaders are working to establish conference calls for “Prayer Waves” in their areas. They will be advertising their waves through emails, websites, Facebook, and any social media to alert people about how they can join a Prayer Wave in their area. Please click here for the conference call information at each WCA Chapter area.

During the prayer waves we will offer prayers of thanksgiving, repentance and intercession. We will also pray out loud together in one voice and one Spirit, known as a Tongsung Kiddo (a Korean way of praying), to plead God to shut down the Coronavirus and release God’s healing and peace upon the people of the world. Each gathering will conclude with reciting The Lord’s Prayer together.

We hope you can join us for this powerful gathering!
