Save the date to Go Global

Dear Members and Friends of the Wesleyan Covenant Association,

It is my privilege to invite you to the Wesleyan Covenant Association’s Fifth Global Gathering to be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Frazer Church in Montgomery, Alabama. We welcome your attendance at our host site or at one of the many simulcast sites that will be available across the United Methodist connection.

This year’s theme – “Go Global!” – is inspired by Jesus’ command to his disciples, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28.19-20).

Go they did! And the command the disciples responded to is as imperative today as it was 2,000 years ago. So as traditionalists in The United Methodist Church, preparing for a new global Methodist movement, we will spend a day together preparing our hearts and minds to go as well. We will do so by reflecting on Peter and Paul who dared to go to new places and to different people in order to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

As always, we will have a line-up of inspirational presenters, powerful times of worship, and we will close our day together with the celebration of Holy Communion.

Friends, we fully acknowledge quarantining restrictions, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, are likely to impact this year’s gathering one way or another. We are planning accordingly.

In order to minimize the potential of receiving your individual registration fees, only to have to go through the arduous process of reimbursing them to you should circumstances require a change in plans, we are going to delay the opening of registration until early September. We trust by that date we will have the best information possible on what kind of a gathering we can actually have.

Of course, we hope we can all gather as we have in the past. However, we are planning for other scenarios.

It is possible we will be allowed to hold the gathering at Frazer Church, but with only our presenters, worship leaders, and a media team present in the sanctuary. In that event, we will livestream the gathering to those simulcast sites around the country where people are allowed to gather in churches. And this year, for a nominal fee, we will also offer individuals the opportunity to livestream the event in their homes.

In a worst-case scenario, where strict quarantining returns, we will prepare for a virtual gathering, that will be done entirely online.

In any event, we trust you will join us one way or another, and that you will encourage others to attend as well.

Despite the delay of the General Conference, we believe the momentum for the creation of a new global Methodist movement is stronger than it has ever been. Our global gatherings have inspired and encouraged people to press forward to what God has in store for us, and we want this year’s gathering – “Go Global! – to do the same!

We look forward to sharing more information about our gathering in the coming weeks and months. For now, please save October 31 on your calendar, and more importantly; be in prayer for our time together.

In Christ,

Keith Boyette

President
